Snow Sports NZ has announced its nominations for its annual awards next month.

Not surprisingly, athletes from the Queenstown-Lakes area dominate the nominations.

The awards will be handed out at the Lake Wanaka centre in Wanaka on October 8.

The free skier of the year award will be hotly contested among Beau-James Wells, his brother, Jossi, and Janina Kuzma, who are all from Wanaka.

Awards will be presented to the 2016 masters ski racing champions, Bonny Teat (Wanaka) and Jon Wardrop (Auckland).
