Singleton, Kasemchaiyanan secure national 8-ball titles

A Labour Weekend trip to Dunedin proved well worth the while for Queenstown's Simon Singleton.

He beat Aucklander Toan Nguyen on Sunday to win the men's final of the national 8-ball pool championships.

Singleton battled through a tough draw and emerged a 9-3 victor in the final.

In the women's final, Auckland got one back through Molrudee Kasemchaiyanan.

She beat Christchurch 18-year-old Jojo Coleman 8-2 to claim the title.

The plate final was an all-Dunedin affair as Baz Winders beat Delvin Chin 4-3.

Kate Timms-Dean was Otago's next best achiever, making the women's semifinals.

Neil Whalley and Lydia Nenewale both made quarterfinals, while Brendan Ng, Alan Gill and Glenn Spiers all made the last 16.

More than 90 players were attracted to the event from around the country.
