Southern schools claim titles

Southern schools have continued their national curling dominance.

Maniototo Area School, Kavanagh College and Bayfield High School all claimed titles at the national secondary schools championships in Naseby.

Maniototo and Kavanagh played each other in the boys and girls finals, coming out on top in one each.

In the boys competition, Will Becker skipped a Maniototo team that went unbeaten through the round robin.

It gained automatic qualification for the final and came out on top 4-3 against Kavanagh.

Maniototo also won direct qualification to the final in the girls.

However, fresh off a 7-2 win over St Hilda's Collegiate in the semifinal, Kavanagh came back to beat the host 9-4 in the final.

In the mixed grade, which was a straight final, Bayfield took a 5-4 win over Maniototo.
