Andrea Miller, the dominant hurdler in New Zealand athletics last year, is one of the three finalists for the Otago sportswoman of the year award.

The 21st annual ASB Otago Sports Awards dinner will be held at the Dunedin Town Hall on Friday May 21.

Miller (28) ran the 10 best times by a New Zealand athlete in her specialist 100m hurdles during the qualifying period from April 1, 2009 to March 31, 2010.

She set a New Zealand record of 13.10sec when she won her race at an international meeting in Geneva in June. Her best competitive performance was to win a bronze medal at the World University Games in Belgrade.

Another finalist for the sportswoman award is Alison Shanks who finished fourth in the 3000m individual pursuit at the world cycling championships and was the top rider in the New Zealand team that won the bronze medal in the team pursuit in a world record time.

The other finalist is Tionette Stoddard who finished 14th in skeleton racing at the Winter Olympics in Vancouver and had a podium finish at a World Cup.

Black Caps wicketkeeper-batsman Brendon McCullum has been nominated for the Otago sportsman award.
