Mahon was the star of the show on Saturday with a combined total of 790kg. Along with his hefty deadlift, he tallied a 170kg bench press and a 307.5kg squat.
It would have been a world record, but these can only be set if there are at least three countries involved in the competition and official judges are on hand. Mahon was named best male lifter at the event, which attracted 55 lifters.
The best female lifter was Dunedin junior lifter Orla Harris. She tallied a combined weight of 335kg. She recorded a deadlift of 127.5kg, a bench press of 82kg and a squat of 125kg.
