White Robe Lodge stud welcomed its first foal of the breeding season when O'Reilly mare Blush gave birth to a Atlante colt last week.

The mare was due to foal before many of the property's mares because she was served in the North Island last year and then purchased by stud managers Wayne and Karen Stewart at this year's South Island Sale.

The stock of Atlante are a rare commodity as the stallion died after an accident during his second season at Mapperly Stud, near Matamata, in December.

White Robe Lodge is expecting up to 80 mares to give birth at North Taieri this breeding season.

The bulk of those are expecting foals by their resident stallions, Gallant Guru, Raise The Flag and Ghibellines, and they are due to start foaling later this month.
