New Zealanders still off the pace in world series

The chance of Kiwi drivers Dexter Dunn and Mark Purdon going through the World Drivers Championships without a heat  win looks increasingly likely.

Both horseman continued their run of outs on day four of the five-day championship at the Hippodrome 3R track in Quebec, yesterday.

While Dunn managed two second placings to hold on to fourth placing in the series standings, his chance  of a second consecutive world title now looks a long-shot at best.

Canadian driver James MacDonald extended his lead with a heat win and two seconds placings taking  him to 192  points. Finnish driver Mika Forss  lies second on 166, ahead of American Marcus Miller on 162.5, while Dunn is even further back on 131.

Mark Purdon’s series of struggles continued yesterday. Four days of driving mostly outside chances has  him  in last place  of the 11 championship drivers. The final day of the  competition will be run at Charlottetown racecourse, on Prince Edward Island,  tomorrow  afternoon.
