Racing: Three riders suspended; fine imposed

Senior Karaka jockey Mark Du Plessis was suspended for four race days as a result of his ride in race 3 at the Waikato Racing Club's meeting at Te Rapa on Saturday.

Du Plessis admitted allowing Cherry Bomb to shift out across the heels of Custer, checking Jud Strunk, near the 250m.

Also inconvenienced were La Punta, Miss Photogenic, This Girls Ready and Santanico.

The suspension begins on Friday and Du Plessis can resume on New Year's Day.

Te Aroha apprentice Tayla Wenn was also suspended for four days as a result of her ride on Supreme Lady in race 9.

Wenn admitted allowing her mount to shift in when not properly clear of Secret's Only who was checked near the 1200m.

Her suspension begins on Friday and she will be free to resume on New Year's Day.

Matamata apprentice Phillip Turner was suspended for four riding days as a result of his ride on Brad Thorn, the winner of race 7 at the Manawatu Racing Club meeting at Awapuni on Saturday.

Turner was found guilty of allowing his mount to shift out, checking Madonna Mia, when passing the 200m.

The suspension begins on Friday and Turner can resume on New Year's Day.

Levin jockey Buddy Lammas was fined $500 for being unable to make the carded weight of 55.5kg for La Clairette in race 1 at Awapuni.

Because there was no replacement rider available, Lammas was permitted to ride the mare at 1.2kg over weight.
