Success for Mosgiel breeder at yearling sale

Mosgiel standardbred breeder Gavin Chin had one horse entered for the PGG Wrightson New Zealand premier yearling sale in Christchurch.

That yearling was an Art Major-Bethany bay colt, named Artstanding.

The half-brother to champion Lazarus was bought by Canterbury trainer Nigel McGrath for $120,000, making it one of the more expensive lots on the second and final day of the sale.

The top-priced lot yesterday was an Art Major-Cheer The Lady colt offered by Taffy Ltd, of Winton, bought by PGG Wrightson as agent for $150,000.

The same vendor offered a Bettor's Delight-Gotta Go Harmony filly bought by Canterbury trainer-driver Mark Jones for $120,000.

Prominent owner Trevor Casey, of Christchurch, paid $120,000 for an Art Major-Christrian Dreamer colt.

Another Canterbury trainer, Cran Dalgety, paid the same amount for a Bettor's Delight-Te Arno Bromac filly offered by Bromac Lodge, Prebbleton.

Lex and Heather Williams, of Waimate, sold a Bettor's Delight-Flying Mrs Williams colt to Pukekohe trainer Brent Mangos for $80,000.

On Tuesday, Australians Emilio and Mary Rosati paid $190,000 for a Bettor's Delight colt from the Spreydon Lodge mare, San Rafaella.

That was followed immediately by Dalgety going to $155,000 to get the next lot, Rocknroll Arden's first foal, a colt by Art Major.

Reg Caldow, of Wellington, sold a Bettor's Delight colt from Star Of Venus to Australian Jean Feiss for $110,000.
