Jockey Samantha Wynne was the star of yesterday’s Timaru meeting, bagging a perfect four wins from four rides.

The expat Irish rider scored wins with the Neill Ridley-trained Pahau and the Neil Coulbeck-trained Clara Jane as well as riding a double for trainers Michael and Matthew Pitman, scoring on Fade To Grey and O’Kiwi.

"I was really glad that I could get the job done for the owners and trainers," Wynne said.

"Most of them have been with me from the beginning.

"I won five races at Oamaru last year, but today I only had four rides, which made it that much better."

Her perfect result took Wynne to seventh on the jockeys’ premiership, a position she hopes to improve on next season.

"This year’s goal was to finish in the top 10. Next season I’d like to finish in the top five and I’d really love to win a group 1."

Jumps jockey Stephan Karnicnik also had a perfect day in the saddle, winning yesterday’s open hurdles and open steeplechase from  two rides.

Firstly, Karnicnik rode Miss Mia to her maiden hurdle win for trainer Neill Ridley at upset odds of 25-to-one.

Karnicnik then guided Tai Ho to his maiden steeplechase win for trainer Ellis Winsloe.

Also on the Timaru card, the return of Lochan Ora and Hayley Maree from Kelvin Tyler’s stable could not have been more impressive.

Racing first up on heavy ground did not faze Lochan Ora as he and rider Kin Kwo held out Hayley Maree and Daniel Bothamley by a long neck to provide Tyler with the race 3 quinella.

Lochan Ora last raced in April, while Hayley Maree was making her return after almost 14 months away from the races.
