Seventeen crews through quarterfinals

Seventeen Otago crews advanced through yesterday's quarterfinals at the Maadi Cup.

In both the boys and girls under-16 double sculls, three crews advanced at Lake Karipiro.

The Otago Boys' High School crew of Sam Moore and Thomas Ryan finished first in their quarterfinal.

Crews from John McGlashan College and Wakatipu High School finished second and third in their quarterfinals respectively.

Dunstan High School managed a second in their quarterfinal in the girls section.

Mount Aspiring College finished third and St Hilda's Collegiate claimed fourth to make the semifinals.

The St Hilda's crew of Emma Burnside and Emily Hurdle claimed a win in the under-15 double sculls.

Dunstan showed its class by qualifying two crews in the girls under-15 coxed quadruple sculls, as well as one in the under-16 race.

John McGlashan also had success in the under-17 double sculls, with Ben MacDonald and Max Gomez advancing after sneaking into fourth place in their race.

Bradley Leydon gave the school a first place, winning his under-18 single sculls quarterfinal, while James Scott, of Waitaki Boys' High School, finished second in his.

In the under-16 boys double sculls, Wakatipu's Ben Mason claimed first, while John McGlashan's Josh McLaughlin came in second.

The semifinals begin tomorrow, when these crews will join those which advanced via repechages earlier in the regatta.
