Successful day for NZ

New Zealand had a successful day at the world championships in Plovdiv, Bulgaria, yesterday,  including one historic performance.

For the first time the men’s quadruple sculls has made the A final at the event.

Nathan Flannery, Mahe Drysdale, Cameron Crampton and Lewis Hollows finished second in their repechage race in Lithuania.

Needing to finish in the top two, the crew pulled away from the field alongside Australia and finished a second, 1sec behind. Thomas Murray and Michael Brake finished second behind Canada in the men’s pair of quarterfinal, although easily qualified for the A/B semifinal.

In the men’s single sculls, Robbie Manson led for over half the race to claim first in his quarterfinal.

In Grace Prendergast and Kerri Gowler made the  the women’s pair A final by finishing second in the  semifinal.

Zoe McBride and Jackie Kiddle qualified for the A final in the lightweight double sculls, finishing a close second behind Italy in the semifinals.

The lightweight men’s double sculls crew of Ben van Dalen and Matthew Dunham finished second in the semifinals to make the A final.
