Tough competition at event

Placings were shared around at the Otago schools indoor rowing championships in Dunedin on Sunday.

With just under 100 rowers lining up, there was some tough competition throughout all events.

Columba College had a great day, with Siena Snow coming first in the under-15 girls 2000m, 500m and 100m, Niamh Paterson winning the under-16 500m and 100m, Abby Anderson winning the under-17 500m and 100m, Ella Foley winning the under-19 500m and 100m and the Columba College side winning the 2km relay.

Other first place finishers in the female events were: Kirsten Willis, from St Hilda's Collegiate, in the under-15 novice 1000m and 500m, Grace Roesler, from Otago Girls' High School, in the under-16 2000m, Pippa Sparrow, from Otago Girls', in the under-17 2000m, Eva Hofmans, from Bayfield High School, in the under-19 2000m and Jana Krickenberg, from St Hilda's Collegiate, in the under-19 novice 1000m and 500m.

In the boys competition it was a tough battle between John McGlashan College and Otago Boys' High School.

Harry Scott, of John McGlashan, won the under-15 2000m, Miro Williams, also of John McGlashan, won the under-15 100m, and Archie Cardno, from Otago Boys, won the under-15 500m. Otago Boys' High School's Cody Campbell won the under-15 novice 1000m and 500m, while Freddie Pankhurst, also of Otago Boys', won the under-16 500m and 100m.

Will Edwards of John McGlashan won the under-17 2000m, 500m and 100m.

Otago Boys' Thomas Ryan won the under-19 2000m, 500m and 100m, and Otago Boys' Grayson Small won the under-19 novice 1000m and 500m. Otago Boys' won the 2km relay.
