Wakatipu’s Connor McIsaac is tackled (top) by Pakuranga’s Trey Alatini, son of former All Black Pita Alatini, at the New Zealand Junior Rugby Festival at Queenstown Events Centre on Saturday.

Wakatipu under-11s beat Pakuranga but lost to Christchurch in the pool round.

Coach Steve McIsaac, Connor’s father, said:

"It came down to the points differential because we all won one pool game. We missed out by one point."

Pakuranga then beat Christchurch FC 21-14 in the final yesterday.

The two-day festival included 28 teams from New Zealand and Australia, including East Wallaroos, whose player Max Harrison is pictured (above) running from the Christchurch FC defence in the under-12s pool game.

The two teams met again in the final won by Christchurch.

Hampstead RC won the under-13s while Ashley RFC was under-10s champion.
