Clutha secure first with win over Clutha Valley

Clutha have wrapped up first place with a commanding 50-12 win over Clutha Valley in their game played at Clutha on Saturday.

It was a tight contest in the early stages, but once Clutha found its feet there was no stopping it.

It put on a clinical showing which holds them in good stead for the top four finals.

Valley rested players as its third position on the table was secured before the match, but this should take nothing away from the ruthless showing by the home side.

Clutha has locked up the MacIntosh Cup for another season as it strives to take out its fourth competition in a row.

It scored eight tries, including two to winger Robin Fesilafai to take his season tally to 18.

Lock Connor Mills had a very strong game for Clutha.

He worked well in the tight before showing his class in the loose later in the game.

The halves combination of Ollie Kenny and Matt Korteweg was also strong.

Valley can be happy with its set-piece, which more than held its own.

Forwards Kyle Forbes, Hamish Wilson and Jeremy Harwood all played well, while Crewze Kingi stood out in the backline.

Meanwhile, Crescent retained second spot and the Eddie Scott Memorial with a 33-26 win over Toko at Kaitangata.

The game was a hard-fought battle, with both sides wanting to prove their worth.

Toko was up 19-12 at halftime - a slim lead, but one which gave it confidence heading into the second spell.

Crescent found its way back into the game though, mostly through its ability to create through broken play. Crescent's bench added plenty when used and with time almost up, the home side took the win with a final try.

Crescent front rowers Jamie Sutton and Logan Morrell were strong, as was fullback Ethan Edwards, who scored a great individual try.

Toko showed its huge improvement from last week with a massive team effort.

Liam Kingma and Mike Aitken were strong, but on the whole the team performed well together.

Heriot have finished the round robin with a strong 46-14 win over Clinton at Heriot.

With fourth place locked up before kick-off, the home side still played its strongest team, and it showed.

The Heriot forward pack was far too strong, and its set-piece dominated.

Clinton was flat for the majority of the game, and lacked structure.

When Clinton held on to the ball for more than five phases it looked good, but it could not make it count on the scoreboard.

Heriot hooker Craig Stanway and fullback George Sheild both scored doubles for the home side.

Captain Kris Roulston had a strong game in the midfield and prop Daniel Goode was also strong.

Forwards Ross Burnet and Greg Landels were strong for Clinton.

Maurice Tairua and Nicky Herbert played well in the backs.

Owaka won its second game in a row and third of the season with a solid 32-20 win over Lawrence at Owaka.

The home side played with a renewed confidence and put in a huge team effort.

Owaka's result was built on a solid platform set by the forwards; its set-piece was strong, and the forward runners made metres.

The Owaka backs were on the front foot throughout and regularly broke the advantage line.

Lawrence found space out wide when it had the ball, but its discipline let it down.

Many times Lawrence would get into scoring positions, but could not convert them into points.

The home side's tenacious defence kept the Lawrence attacks at bay.

Owaka halfback Damon Clement had a strong game.

He found holes around the rucks, made plenty of metres with ball in hand, and scored two nice tries. Centre Chris Chittock also played well, as he has all year.

Lawrence first five Joe Andresen ran well and centre Hayden Wyber was also strong.
