The Woodlands premier team is expected to continue its resurgence in the Galbraith Shield competition tomorrow when it takes on bottom-of-the-table Pirates Old Boys at Surrey Park.

Pirates will be desperate for a win, as another loss would all but extinguish its hopes of making the finals, even with a full round of five games yet to play.

Star earned a confidence-boosting 41-22 win over Pirates Old Boys last week but this week Star will host the unbeaten Marist at Waverley Park. Blues will play the Barbarians at Balmoral.

Premier B grade team Edendale will be looking to celebrate Karl Laurence's 200th game in style when the club hosts Riversdale tomorrow.

Edendale team-mate Luke Muir describes Laurence as the ultimate team and club man.

"We have a strong set-up at Edendale but Karl is probably the backbone. He is so passionate about club rugby. He has as photographic memory when it comes to Edendale rugby. He can reel off game stats from six years ago," he said.

Laurence has served on the Edendale committee as club captain and marketing man, and is the club's vice-president. Karl's wife, Leah, has been the senior team's manager in recent years and helps with meals in the clubrooms and attracting club sponsorship.

The Laurence duo has two children in Poppy and Ridge. Poppy is primed to start Rippa Rugby for the club next year.

Laurence made his senior debut in 2006 after first attending Edendale Primary school and James Hargest College.

He has played most of his games at lock, but is also a capable loose forward, and even filled in at prop when things were desperate.

He works as a share-milker in Brydone, in partnership with his brother-in-law, Braden Mikkelsen, who is a former Edendale team-mate.

Muir has played 148 club games in the front row, but will not be adding to that total this year after suffering an Achilles injury.

Muir is just one of the injured players helping run ladies day at the club tomorrow.

"Our wives, mothers and partners do a lot for the club so we will be catering for them the best we can, including preparing the meals and running the shop and bar."

In other premier B games, Midlands will get a gauge on its form when it travels to meet unbeaten Wyndham.

Te Anau will have a full-strength team available this week and is desperate to win at home against Waikaka.
