Old Boys emphasised their credentials as the team to beat in North Otago club rugby with a crushing 57-26 win over Kurow at Whitestone Contracting Stadium today.

All the damage was done in the first 50 minutes, after which Old Boys led 52-14, and those expecting a contest between two top teams were a tad shocked.

Kurow, to its credit, played much better in the final half hour and showed signs it will be a better team later in the season.

There was an arm wrestle at Weston, where Maheno - now the only team other than Old Boys to be unbeaten - clung on for a 17-14 win over Valley.

Athletic Marist bounced back after defaulting last weekend with a 52-24 win over Excelsior.
