Otago Country after tri-series trophy

Otago Country heads to Christchurch this weekend to play Canterbury Country for the tri-series trophy.

Otago Country started the season with the trophy but lost to Southland Country in Wanaka.  Southland Country in turn lost the trophy to Canterbury Country. This match is set up to be a blockbuster. Both sides have had hot and cold patches and are heading into this game full of confidence.

Both had losses last time out but played well against slightly more experienced teams. Otago Country has relied on its strong forward pack to set a decent platform for it backs to operate. It will be sweating on the fitness of some key players who could make a big difference. Otago Country won the corresponding fixture last season.

The Otago Country age-group teams are also starting their serious games. The under-18s, under-16s and under-14s take on Southland opposition in Ivercargill. All teams have had mixed results in the warm-up games but have played some very good rugby.
