Some tasty clashes loom in round two

Round two of the Southern Region competition has some tasty match-ups to discuss.

Clutha leads the way due to its large win over Clinton. Owaka is in second after its impressive match against Toko. These two teams meet this weekend with three trophies on the line.

Clutha seemed to carry on its impressive form of past seasons with a solid team effort against Clinton.

Their forwards set a very tidy platform and the backs revelled in the free space they were allowed. Thirteen tries in the first game of the season is quite an achievement.

Owaka withstood all Toko threw at them last weekend and finished the game very strongly. Their structure was good for the majority of the game and their fitness was superior.

On paper this match has been a no-brainer in recent years, but there is huge belief around Swamp Hen Park. Owaka will have to work unbelievably hard to get a result though, as Clutha are still hot favourites. David and Goliath, anyone?

Heriot host Toko in a match up which is usually dominated by the forwards. This season though both sides are quite happy to throw the ball wide and test their backs out. Toko looked dangerous in broken play last week. Fullback Jacky Scott showed his class with the ball.

Heriot tried their hardest to lose to Roxburgh last week, but came away with a close win. Clinton host Clutha Valley for the Brian Steel Memorial. Clinton currently hold this trophy, and will need to play 200% better this week to retain it.

Valley put in a solid forty minutes last week and will need to string two good halves together. Hard to pick a favourite in this one.

The Teviot Valley sees rugby for the first time in a while as Roxburgh hosts Crescent. Crescent have some injury worries, but should have enough to get maximum points this weekend. Roxburgh will want to show their worth on attack after defending much of last week.
