The top-of-the-table clash between old foes Crescent and Clutha headlines a bumper weekend for the southern region competition.

Crescent hosts bitter rival Clutha in the battle of the unbeaten teams. Clutha sits one point ahead of Crescent due to its accumulation of bonus points.

Both teams were tested last week. Clutha was pushed and was behind for three-quarters of its game against Clinton before its superior bench took control and stole the win.

Crescent was matched physically by a committed Owaka outfit in a game which tested the side's mental agility as well as its physicality. This will be a close game but Clutha has the mental edge over its opposition plus an outstanding bench.

Clutha Valley has the winning feeling back and is excited to host Clinton for the Brian Steel Memorial Trophy. It is Valley's club day so expect big things from the home side.

There is plenty of talent on show with Valley backs Jonny Sargent and Max Duncan in fine form along with Clinton forwards Ross Burnet and Ben Millar.

Owaka hosts Toko for the Reg Phillip Trophy. Owaka knows this is a huge game in terms of its season. Owaka has produced some outstanding rugby and has pushed most teams in the competition. It has been a case of so near but yet so far.

Owaka almost has a full squad to choose from, including utility back Corey Clement who adds plenty of experience and a cool head which strengthens his team immensely. Toko is playing well and will offer a huge challenge.

Prop-turned-winger Jacob Jenkins is still turning heads with his skill with ball in hand.

The West Otago Shield is on the line when Heriot hosts Lawrence. Heriot has squeaked into the top four on the back of two wins. Lawrence still only has the one win but will be more than competitive in this match.
