Win keeps Mossburn in touch

In the sixth round of the division one competition Mossburn earned a vital win, 18-13 at home over Waikiwi, to stay in touch with the top four.

Mossburn coach Todd Cavanagh said it was a hard fought match that could have gone either way.

"Waikiwi's forwards worked very hard but our defence was solid all day, led by lock forward Gareth Coutts."

Coutts was named man of the match, while Mossburn's midfielders Josh Cavanagh and Cal Clark were standouts in a dominant backline. Mossburn now sits fifth on the points table behind Pioneer, Blues B, Waikiwi and Albion Excelsior.

Blues B beat Wakatipu 43-19 in Queenstown, Albion beat Star B 39-12 in Gore, and across town, Pioneer demolished Waiau Star 73-0.

In division two, Drummond Limehills Star Club celebrated its 25th anniversary with a clinical 57-12 win over Woodlands B in Drummond. Harry Smith at No8 was player of the day.

Referee Andrew Roland and the perfect surface at Drummond helped provide a good spectacle.

Crisp passing from the halves pairing of Kyle Sinclair and Jimmy Johnstone, and hard and direct running from midfielder Nathan Milne were other highlights.

Riverton dominated the experienced Blues B2s at Balmoral Drive to win 37-7. Outstanding performances from Pete Templeton, Dave Roberts and Jacob Brown helped set the platform.

There were three close games in division two. Bush Pirates beat Balfour Lumsden 32-29, Bluff beat Ohai Nightcaps 35-23 and Pirates Old Boys B team beat Marist's B team 29-22.

Collegiate's difficult season continued when it defaulted to Mataura.
