Bust out the  Monopoly  board — weekend sport may be off again.

Heavy rain and flooding last weekend caused widespread cancellations  and resulted in the Dunedin City Council (DCC) closing its grounds.

The forecast is looking promising for some sun  tomorrow but more rain yesterday has not helped the already sodden grounds dry out.

DCC acting parks operation manager Gareth Jones said all the grounds were closed again yesterday and a decision would be made about noon today whether to reopen any of them.

"There are a couple of grounds that are seriously wet but we will make an assessment [today], and if we can get some games going we certainly will," Jones said.

"We know that there are a few key grounds that are extremely wet ... and there are some others, especially with the rain [yesterday], that are looking like they won’t be open for the weekend.

"But we will look to reschedule some of the [matches] that are closed and put them on some of the better grounds."

Jones said the priority was to "preserve the grounds for the long term".

"Some of them have held up really well but we will have to reassess after this rain."
