The Wānaka school registered their first win in the Southern Schools Rugby Championship qualifiers on Saturday.
They cruised to a 45-10 win over Cromwell in Cromwell.
Co-coach Aaron Wilson said it was a good reward for the team after a tough start to the competition.
‘‘Everyone stuck to their tasks and believed in their processes and, yeah, it was a good result,’’ he said.
The pack set the platform for the comfortable win.
Loosehead prop Noah Purnell was excellent in the set pieces and tackled hard.
Lock Lucas Haig, who was playing his 15th game for the team, also impressed with his work rate around the field.
He also carried the ball into contact with some real heft.
Halfback Danny Clark controlled the game nicely and provided some tidy service for the backs.
‘‘He probably had his best game playing for MAC,’’ Wilson said.
While the win was welcomed, they did leave some points out on the paddock.
‘‘We knocked on or dropped four tries over the line. So, it could have been a bigger score, so we didn’t really finish very well. But otherwise it was a well-executed team performance.’’
Waitaki Boys’ strengthened their place at the top of Pool A. They dispatched Dunstan 45-7 in Oamaru.
Crosstown rival St Kevin’s were stunned 31-12 by the vastly improved Taieri side in Mosgiel.
Central Southland edged Hokonui 31-13 in Mataura and John McGlashan beat Wakatipu 31-20 in Dunedin.
McGlashan will play South Otago, who lead the standings in Pool B, in Balclutha on Friday.
In the South Island Boys’ Schools Rugby Championship, Otago Boys’ clinched a 45-41 win over Shirley Boys’ in Dunedin, King’s lost 42-41 to Christ’s College at home, and Southland Boys’ beat Timaru Boys’ 40-28 in Invercargill on Wednesday.
