There were 14 teams in the under-15 tackle grade and seven teams in the under-16 quick-rip grade, which was up from 14 teams in the two grades last year.

Black Ferns Joanah Ngan-Woo, Jackie Patea-Fereti and Kilisitina Moata’ane were also scheduled to make an appearance during the day.

The tackle grade was won by St Hilda’s Collegiate, who won 17-0 over a combined Central Otago schools team, while in the quick-rip grade, Columba College beat East Otago 6-3.

About 270 girls competed in the tournament.

Our journalists are your neighbours

We are the South's eyes and ears in crucial council meetings, at court hearings, on the sidelines of sporting events and on the frontline of breaking news.

As our region faces uncharted waters in the wake of a global pandemic, Otago Daily Times continues to bring you local stories that matter.

We employ local journalists and photographers to tell your stories, as other outlets cut local coverage in favour of stories told out of Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch.

You can help us continue to bring you local news you can trust by becoming a supporter.
