According to The Times, the 26-year-old midfielder is set to join English club Wasps from French giant Toulon.
The move was expected to be announced ''in the next few days''.
Fekitoa has been in Europe since 2017, when he left the Highlanders at the end of that year's Super Rugby season.
He played for the franchise for four years and won 24 caps with the All Blacks in that time. That included being part of the winning Rugby World Cup team in 2015.
Finding himself on the outer in 2017, he departed for Europe.
However, last September The New Zealand Herald reported he wanted to keep returning as a possibility.
''Many people believe I'm out, but I'm too young to give up on that,'' he was quoted as saying.
''I want to play at the highest level again. I want to put my hand up and get picked.
''I know I'm not part of the plan now, but who knows?
''If you put in the work, have the right mindset and enjoy your rugby, things will come.
''Test rugby is still up there, so hopefully I return and be competitive again.''
He will join former Highlanders team-mate Lima Sopoaga at Wasps.
