The Highlanders lost 24-15 to the Chiefs in the side’s opening game of the Super rugby season at Forsyth Barr Stadium in Dunedin last night.

The home team trailed 14-9 at halftime and never got close to a Chiefs side that  always had its nose in front.

A crowd of 17,800 was at the game, where Highlanders captain Ben Smith (pictured left) was forced from the field with concussion.

He is expected to be out of rugby for several weeks.
