Lions tickets go on sale

Tickets to the match between the Lions and the Highlanders go on sale to the general public at noon today.

The games to all the non-test matches will be available from a website, and adult seats are available from $39.

Enterprise Dunedin director John Christie said hosting the British and Irish Lions at Forsyth Barr Stadium would be one of the sporting highlights for the city in 2017.

"We’re anticipating the city will be awash with fans and we are delighted to host the British and Irish Lions-Highlanders match which will showcase Dunedin as the best venue for sporting events in the country," Christie said.

Highlanders chief executive Roger Clark said the first  meeting of the Lions and the Highlanders was shaping up to be a great contest.

"This event is truly significant in the history of our club.

"I have no doubt this unique and historic day will be marked by a huge crowd and a magnificent atmosphere."

The match is set down for June 13, a Tuesday, and the Highlanders are expected to be at full strength.

The public sale follows a priority period from early October during which thousands of community members (including players, club members, volunteers), season ticket-holders, stadium members and Team All Blacks members snapped up the available allocation of tickets.

The Highlanders did not supply the number of tickets the franchise had already sold to the match.

The matches on sale exclude the tests, which are only available by entering an online ballot which closes on Tuesday, or securing official hospitality or travel packages.
