Hurricanes stars Nonu, Collins cited

Two prominent Hurricanes could be facing spells on the sidelines following Friday night's Super 14 game against the Highlanders at Carisbrook.

All Black flanker Jerry Collins and winger Ma'a Nonu will both face a Sanzar judicial hearing in Wellington this afternoon after being cited for separate incidents in their 10-6 win.

Of the two, Nonu appears the more likely to get bad news.

He was cited by commissioner Mike O'Leary for a dangerous tackle on Highlanders prop Clint Newland in the 55th minute of the game.

Aside from the fact Nonu appeared to leave his feet and strike Newland around the neck, he has a chequered disciplinary record and has twice been sin-binned this season.

Collins was cited for allegedly punching, or striking, Highlanders hooker David Hall, and also for ‘‘acts contrary to good sportsmanship'.

It appeared Collins may have directed a forearm at Hall's throat during an altercation.

Nonu's hearing is at the New Zealand Rugby Union offices at 4pm and Collins' is at 5.30pm.
