Lions still in series - Gatland

The Lions believe they are still very much in the series and just need to look at a few ''fixables''.

Lions coach Warren Gatland said the All Blacks played very direct up front, running the ball up hard, straight off the halfback, and attacked his side.

''I thought they played very well up front. They did a good job stopping our line speed. They came up hard off their nine [halfback] and that got them some front-foot ball,'' Gatland said.

''They were very aggressive at the breakdown. We need to learn from that and make sure we are better in those areas next week.''

Gatland said the side knew what was coming from the All Blacks.

''They knew they would be trying to stop our line speed and kick in behind us. The other way to do that is to come really hard off nine. They did that really effectively . . . we've just got to be better at stopping them coming so direct off their nine.

''Hats off to them. They did not play a lot of throwing the ball around. They were just physical up front and you have to give credit to them for that.''

Gatland was disappointed with his side's discipline, conceding 11 penalties. The All Blacks conceded six.

''We have given away a few soft penalties and they have been costly. In the games when our discipline has been good and we have given away less than 10 penalties it is reflected in the performance. You put yourself under pressure giving away those soft penalties.''

But overall the coach thought his side showed it was still a big chance in the series.

''I thought we played some lovely rugby at times and scored a couple of nice tries. There was a couple of great opportunities to score and could have been taken, but we have just switched off a little bit. They have caught us on a quick tap . . . for me, they are all fixable.

''To me the All Blacks have not played champagne rugby and thrown the ball all over the place. We need to be better in those areas to be better next week.''

Gatland said members of the team to take on the Hurricanes tomorrow night would be able to put their hand up for the second test.

The bonus this week was being able to be in the same hotel for the next seven days.

The Lions picked up no serious injuries from the test.
