Otago have gone down 21-47 to a rampant Tasman Makos at Forsyth Barr Stadium today.

The Premiership leading visitors flew out to a 28-0 lead at halftime thanks to a dominant display from their highly rated forward pack.

Otago came back strong after the break, with assistant coach Ryan Martin saying the message was clear at halftime "either put up the white flag or the blue and gold flag".

Second half tries to Matt Faddes, Sio Tomkinson and Slade McDowall made the scoreline more respectable but opened the Razorbacks up to the counter attack, shipping another two tries to the impressive Will Jordan.

Despite the humbling defeat, Otago are still in with a chance of a home semi-final but have to rely on results from elsewhere.

Next up for Otago is a huge Ranfurly Shield challenge against Waikato in Hamilton next Saturday.

Otago 21 (Matt Faddes, Sio Tomkinson, Slade McDowall tries; Tomkinson 3 con)

Tasman 47 (Will Jordan 3, Mitch Hunt, Andrew Makalio, David Havili, Tima Faingaanuku tries; Hunt 6 con)

HT: 28-0 Tasman
