Otago will be heartened by some strong performances by the A side in the weekend.

Otago A beat Canterbury Country in back-to-back one-dayers at the University Oval.

It was valuable game time for some Volts players who will be looking to make an impact when Otago resumes its first-class campaign later this week.

Pace bowler Warren Barnes continues to impress in his return from a shoulder injury. He took four for 42 from 10 overs on Saturday to help set-up a three-wicket win for the home side.

Former Canterbury first-class batsman Shanan Stewart scored an undefeated 115 from 103 deliveries to help the visitors post 256 for eight.

The home team slumped to 108 for five but Ant Harris helped get the chase back on course with 37. Then Josh Tasman-Jones (62 not out) and Rhys Phillips (41 not out) combined in an unbroken 62-run eighth-wicket stand to seal the win.

Yesterday, Kaikorai all-rounder Geordie Scott scored 114 from 133 deliveries to help Otago A reach 286.

Volts opener Gregor Croudis made a solid contribution with 59 and back-up middle order batsman Sean Eathorne scored 57.

All-rounder Josh Finnie helped complete a 60-run win with five for 58. Among his victims was the dangerous Stewart, who rounded out a good weekend with an innings of 80.

Pace bowler Jacob Duffy was solid with none for 38 from 10 overs. The 22-year-old was sent back to the nets before Christmas and appears to be returning to form. That is good news for Otago.
