Collins in Blues’ sights?

Otago utility back Michael Collins’ good season may well be rewarded with a Super rugby contract.

Collins (23) has been playing well at fullback for the Otago side this season and comes back into the team tonight to take on Auckland.

He is playing at Eden Park tonight and that may well be his new home next year.

It is believed Collins is in the sights of the Blues, who are looking for a utility outside back with the departure of Tevita Li to the Highlanders and doubts over the likes of Ben Lam and Jordan Trainor.

The Highlanders’ outside back stocks look particularly full with Li’s arrival and the likes of Waisake Naholo, Patrick Osborne, Ben Smith and Richard Buckman back for another year.

Collins has never played Super rugby but it has always been an ambition for the former Otago Boys’ High School pupil.
