Coltman could be the man for a crisis

The All Blacks will be looking to bring two new hookers into their set-up today and Otago rake Liam Coltman is believed to be a contender.

Coltman (26) had another strong game for Otago yesterday in its win over Southland in Invercargill and must be one under the microscope by Steve Hansen and his fellow All Black selectors.

With Nathan Harris out for the season  because of a knee injury he picked up in  Sydney last week and Codie Taylor concussed in the Bledisloe Cup test in Sydney after just three minutes, the hooking cupboard is bare.

Even Dane Coles, who had a stormer for the All Blacks on Saturday night, is still carrying a rib injury.

Hansen and co were expected to pore over footage last night before bringing players into the squad, which arrived in Wellington last night.

Coltman has been in the All Black set-up before, being part of an "apprentice" scheme in the 2013 season in which players were introduced to the All Black camp without stripping for a game.

He has been passed over since  for the likes of Harris and Taylor. Coltman is a former New Zealand Colt and is in his second season as the Otago captain.

Though it would be a big boost for Coltman to get the call-up it may hurt Otago’s chances as he is a key player for  his province. Coltman could be joined by his Highlanders team-mate Ash Dixon, as the Hawkes Bay skipper and hooker also a possible contender to come into the  team.

The All Blacks are also expected to name some additional backs to join the squad because of injuries to backs Waisake Naholo and Ryan Crotty.
