Otago takes on Auckland on Saturday night and, to win, Otago needs to do one thing - well, two really - stop the Ioane brothers, Rieko and Akira.

A quick look through the statistics of the Mitre 10 Cup and it is obvious the brothers are big players in the competition.

The duo are in the top four of the key statistics in the competition and this is coming off a prolonged sevens campaign.

It is rare in any competition to have a set of brothers so dominant and it is little wonder they are tipped to be the next siblings to play for the All Blacks.

Centre Rieko, the younger of the two at 19, scored a hat trick of tries against Bay of Plenty and has five tries for the season, third-equal in the competitions.

However, he is leading the category of most clean breaks with 15.

In defenders beaten, Rieko is top of the ladder with 50 beaten while Akira is No2 with 42. Daylight is third, led by Southland prop Peni Ravia and North Harbour centre Matt Vaega, both on 24.

In the the number of ball carries, Akira tops the charts with 95, four ahead of Luke Whitelock. That tally was before last night's Ranfurly Shield challenge by Canterbury.

The brothers are also the top two in the metres gained. Rieko has logged up 548m in his games while Akira has notched 500m. That is well clear of Southland fullback Junior Ngaluafe, who has gained 475m.

Akira, who is 21, is letting himself down in one department. He has yet to score a try this season.

He has played a bit on the openside flank this year but can play all three loose forward positions well.

Otago has scored more tries than Auckland, 27-25, and will have to get over the chalk again on Saturday night to be in the hunt for a rare win at Eden Park.

It won at Eden Park in 2011 but before that had not won there since 1976.
