The vintage of 2018 are going to look like the vintage of 1998 - now let's hope they play like the mob from 20 years ago.

As part of its heritage celebrations to mark the deeds of the 1998 Otago rugby and netball sides, which both won national titles, the Otago rugby team will wear a replica of the strip it donned 20 years ago.

The side is set to take on Canterbury in a Mitre 10 Cup match on Saturday at 5.05pm at Forsyth Barr Stadium.

The Otago union has organised a couple of functions on Friday for the celebrations.

The Otago Champions function on Friday has sold out and more than 200 people will enjoy a lunch and hear from former Otago rugby and netball players.

Another function will take place later on Friday, which will involve the former players and members of the current Otago and Canterbury teams will be present. Tickets are still available for this.

About 20 members of the 1998 rugby side are attending the celebrations, while nearly all the members of the victorious Otago netball side will be at the festivities.
