It has been a big couple of weeks for Otago captain Michael Collins.

Collins lifted the Ranfurly Shield in Hamilton on October 13 as Otago beat Waikato to take the log o' wood.

He then played his 50th game for Otago as the side won the Mitre 10 Cup championship semifinal over Hawke's Bay to qualify for tomorrow night's final against Waikato.

Then, on Tuesday night, Collins was awarded the David Latta Award at the Otago rugby awards.

The trophy is voted on by players on a points system for every game. Tei Walden won the award last year.

Collins has had a top year for Otago. The fullback missed the first two games of the season with a slight fracture of his cheek bone, but has been sound at the back and an on-field leader.

In other awards, lock Josh Dickson was awarded forward of the year, while midfield back Sio Tomkinson was named back of the year.

Winger Jona Nareki was named most valuable player, while centre Matt Faddes was voted season members' player of the year.

The Otago Spirit also handed out awards, with fullback Sheree Hume voted most valuable player, second five-eighth Greer Muir as the back of the year and loose forward Morgan Henderson as the forward of the year.
