Excelsior players were finally able to celebrate as they broke through for their first win of the North Otago club rugby season today.

Led by outstanding loose forward Mat Duff and powerful midfield back Kayne Middleton, Excelsior beat Oamaru rivals Athletic Marist 36-29.

Old Boys picked up from a slow start and ran away with a 62-14 win over Valley.

The opening game of the round was played on Thursday night.

Maheno maintained its run of form with an 11-5 win over Kurow.
