Rugby: Highlanders sign new sponsor deal

The Highlanders have attracted another sponsor and are launching the deal with an unusual public interaction next week.

The revived franchise has signed a deal with global supplement company Optimum Nutrition. The company, founded in the United States in 1986, specialises in whey powder, protein bars and mineral supplements.

Highlanders commercial manager Mike Kerr said the deal would be beneficial for the franchise as a whole.

"This sponsorship arrangement is a perfect synergy for us. Not only will it provide us with valuable financial support, but it will also support our players on a practical level, every day."

Optimum Nutrition's Asia-Pacific regional director Barry Fitzsimons said the company was delighted to welcome the Highlanders to its stable.

"The Highlanders epitomise our commitment to integrity and excellence ... They're always an exciting team to watch and we're happy to be able to support them, on and off the field."

To launch the deal, the Highlanders are inviting members of the public to test their speed and endurance against three players next week.

The test will be held at Dunedin's Crossfit Gym at noon on Friday.
