Waisake Naholo has called in the lawyers to try to get out of his contract with Clermont.

Naholo (24) is trying to wriggle his way out of a deal he signed with the French club before the Super rugby season kicked off.

Naholo said the issue was with his agent and a lawyer had been called in to try to negotiate his way out of the contract. He has signed a two-year deal with the French powerhouse.

If Naholo does get out of the deal he said he would only play for one team next season at Super rugby level - the Highlanders.

The Fijian-born winger said one of the reasons he signed the deal so early in the season was he believed he was well back in the pecking order at the Highlanders.

He thought the likes of Kurt Baker and Richard Buckman were ahead of him and he would not get much game time.

Buckman was the incumbent right winger for the side but he got injured in pre-season. Naholo played well in a couple of pre-season games and was subsequently picked for the first game and has not looked back.

He is the competition's top try-scorer with eight tries, along with Hurricanes halfback TJ Perenara, and also has the highest clean breaks in the competition with 23.
