Highlanders coach Glenn Moore has been forced into a radical overhaul of his side for tomorrow night's last game of the season, against the table-topping Crusaders in Christchurch.

The side Moore named yesterday featured nine changes from the XV that took the field against the Blues at Carisbrook six days ago.

In the backs, Mike Delany moves from first five-eighth to fullback, Toby Morland replaces Jimmy Cowan at halfback, Daniel Bowden gets his first start in a month at first five-eighth, Niva Ta'auso replaces Aaron Bancroft at centre, and Paul Williams moves from fullback to the wing.

The forward pack features the return of Tim Boys for Alando Soakai on the openside flank and the inclusion of lock Hayden Triggs and front-rowers David Hall and Chris King in the tight five.

On the long injury list are Soakai (shoulder), Matt Saunders (head knock), James Wilson (hip), Brett Mather (knee), Hoani MacDonald (wrist), Jamie Mackintosh (foot) and Steven Setephano (calf).

"It's been a little bit of the story of the season for us. We've seemed to have a string of injuries since the middle point," Moore said.

"Injuries are part and parcel of the game. Sometimes you don't have many but we're certainly getting our fair share now.

"It was a particularly difficult selection process this week and we had to make some hard calls on whether guys were 100% right or 98%. We elected to go with guys who were fully fit."

One bonus was that several players who were fresh because they had played little rugby in recent weeks were getting a run, Moore said.

The major change in the backs is the introduction of the 10-15, Bowden-Delany combination.

Delany has played well at first-five in the last three games but shuffles back because there are few outside back options.

"Mike has played pretty well. But we've got injured wingers and we felt, for this game, it suited us to have Paul [Williams] on the wing," Moore said.

"Mike's got a lot of strengths around vision and game sense and that will still come into play at fullback."

Moore has made a change at halfback for the third consecutive game.

"We just felt Toby was the right person for the team for this week."

Boys showed excellent form at flanker before he was given the week off against the Blues.

He must be feeling a little lighter, too, having cut off the mullet that appeared to set the trend for many of his team-mates.

Meanwhile, another baby has joined the Highlanders family. Lock Isaac Ross and partner Arnia welcomed the arrival of son Stanley Moses on Wednesday.
