Adam Thomson makes a welcome return to the Highlanders for Friday's clash against the Force in Dunedin, in what will be his 50th game for the franchise.

The flanker missed last weekend's loss to the Lions owing to a rib injury.

Thomson's return is one of two changes to the Highlanders lineup that lost to the Lions.

John Hardie also comes into the pack in place of Alando Soakai, who moves to the reserves. All Black Tom Donnelly, returning from a back injury, comes back into the reserves.

The Highlanders will wear a new strip on Friday in their last appearance at Carisbrook.

The team is: Jamie Mackintosh (C), Mo Schwalger, Chris King, Jarrad Hoeata, Josh Bekhuis, Adam Thomson, John Hardie, Nasi Manu, Jimmy Cowan, Lima Sopoaga,  Siale Piutau, Shaun Treeby, Kendrick Lynn, Kade Poki, Ben Smith. Reserves: Jason Rutledge, Bronson Murray, Tom Donnelly, Nick Crosswell, Aaron Smith, Robbie Robinson, Alando Soakai.
