The Otago Rugby Football Union has confirmed it will hold a judicial hearing following a misconduct complaint stemming from an incident in a colts game late last month.

The union’s community rugby manager, Richard Perkins, said he could not comment other than to confirm it had received a misconduct complaint and a hearing would be scheduled.

But a source, who alerted the Otago Daily Times to the incident, said the fracas occurred during a match between Otago Boys’ High School First XV and Taieri at Peter Johnstone Park on Saturday, July 29.

A fight, involving about six players, broke out about five minutes into the game.

"Play had moved on, so the referee ... wouldn’t have seen it, but a parent ran about 15m on to the field and crash tackled a Taieri player who was involved in the melee," the source wrote.

"Another adult came on and dragged him away.

"Never seen anything like it in my rugby-watching life.

"No action was taken because it was only thespectators who saw it, noofficials."

Otago Boys’ High School rector Richard Hall said he was made aware during the week of allegations about a parent of a student playing in the game.

"The school cannot take responsibility for a parent’s action, but we have spoken to the man as part of the school’s internal investigation, and were not aware until Friday that the parent was the subject of a citing made to the Otago Rugby Football Union," Hall said.

"This is now a matter for the union to manage."

Taieri Rugby Football Club club captain Kevin Davidson declined to comment when contacted.

In May, three Otago Boys’ First XV players were suspended for foul play following separate incidents during a haka at an interschool rugby match against King’s High School at Littlebourne. And in April, junior rugby coach Gemma Tuhega was suspended from coaching her team for two months after admitting she verbally abused a 16-year-old referee.
