Chiefs to play in Suva again

Super Rugby will return to Fiji in 2019 but the Highlanders will not be involved.

The Chiefs are taking a home game to Fiji on June 1 next year, when they will take on the Crusaders.

The match will be played at ANZ Stadium in Suva.

The sides have played in the stadium twice before, having a win each.

The Highlanders headed to Fiji last season to play the Chiefs in their first trip to the country and ended up losing heavily, 45-22.

It was deemed a financial success by Highlanders management but the loss was a serious dent in their season.

With good crowds turning up at Forsyth Barr Stadium, Highlanders management have decided to play all eight home games in Dunedin and Invercargill next season.

Crusaders chairman Grant Jarrold said it was exciting to once again have the Pacific Island nation host the fixture.

"We are thrilled the Chiefs have invited us back to Suva for their home game in 2019,'' he said.

"The Crusaders have close ties with Fiji so we're grateful to the Fiji Government, Fiji Sports Council and Fortress Information Systems for bringing this game between two quality New Zealand Super Rugby teams to Suva.''
