New Zealand will face Wales in its women's Rugby World Cup opener in August.

The draw, which was announced yesterday, placed the Black Ferns in a pool with Canada and Hong Kong, as well as Wales. The team kicks off its campaign on August 10 at Billings Park, at University College, Dublin. It has a short turnaround before playing Hong Kong on August 13 and another before its game against Canada on August 17.

The semifinals will be played on August 22 and the final is scheduled for August 26.

Defending champion England gets the tournament under way against Spain earlier on August 10 at the UCD Bowl in Dublin.

At the last World Cup in 2014, the Black Ferns were beaten 17-14 by Ireland in their pool. That kept them out of the semifinals and forced them to settle for fifth.

Prior to that, they had won the tournament four consecutive times.
