Fifths best placings for Otago

Four Otago swimmers competed for New Zealand at the Australian state teams shortcourse championships at the weekend.

Caitlin Deans, Cecilia Crooks, Tame Govaerts-Paul and Nick Pryde all competed at the meet in Canberra.

Deans, coming off a strong showing at the New Zealand secondary schools championships, managed a best placing of fifth in the 800m freestyle.

She also claimed sixth in the 400m individual medley ninth in the 200m and 400m freestyle.

Crooks finished ninth in the 800m freestyle, while managing 12th and 15th in the 400m and 200m freestyle respectively.

Govaerts-Paul, representing New Zealand for the first time, managed fifth in the 200m breaststroke, while also finishing seventh in the 50m and 100m breaststroke races. In the 400m IM, he finished 11th.

Pryde, also making his debut appearance for New Zealand, came sixth in the 1500m freestyle, while finishing 11th in the 400m freestyle and 12th in both the 200m IM and 200m butterfly.
