Moana Pool will host the national and autumn diving championships this weekend.

The pool will play host for three days of competition starting on Friday with divers coming from Auckland, Wellington and Dunedin clubs.

The 2011 earthquake in Christchurch wrecked the diving facilities in Christchurch.

Diving Otakou coach Trudy Schievink said it was great to have the championships in the city and a high standard of diving was expected.

There were 73 divers in the competition who would compete at all levels.

It was originally hoped to have some New Zealand divers who had competed at the Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast line up in the event.

However, no Games competitors will take part, as they are still feeling the effects of competing on the Gold Coast.

The event is a combination of the national championships and the autumn championships.

The Diving Otakou team will line up 18 divers at the event.

Diving will be performed from the 1m boards to the 10m platform.

The competition will finish about 3pm on Sunday.
