Daniel Gilbert (14), of Oamaru and Grayson Westgate (15), of Dunedin, compete at the national division two swimming championship at Moana Pool yesterday.

The championships started on Wednesday and continue until tomorrow. The championships are open to swimmers aged 12 to 18 from all over the country. 

There are high numbers of entrants for some races and 62 swimmers lined up to compete in the girls 12-13 200m freestyle.

Former top Dunedin swimmer Liz van Welie’s name is back in the pool but it is through the representation of her swim club, Liz van Welie Aquatics, which is based in Tauranga. Heats take place in the morning and the finals are raced at night.
