Otago to forefront

Otago competitors featured prominently at the South Island championships in Blenheim over the weekend.

The region achieved 22 placings in super finals at the meeting, as well as winning six relay medals.

Neptune’s Caitlin Deans  claimed wins in the 100m and 200m backstroke super finals, as well as the 50m and 400m freestyle and won the open women’s 800m title.

She was pushed the hardest in 50m freestyle in which she swam 26.96sec to beat fellow Neptune swimmer Molly Law by 0.01sec. Law  was also second in the 400m freestyle — again behind Deans — and the 200m freestyle. She was able to claim a win in the 100m freestyle.

Jessica Scott was first in the 200m butterfly, as well as second in the 100m butterfly and third in the 200m IM. Courtland Ellis was first in the 200m IM and second in the 100m and 200m freestyle.

Cecilia Crooks claimed a second in the 400m IM and thirds in the 200m and 400m freestyle.
