Balmacewen gives Andersons Bay first loss of season

Belmacewen and Otago Boys' both escaped with close tie wins as they defeated Anderson's Bay and St Clair by five matches to four.

Balmacewen gave Andersons Bay its first loss of the season as it started strongly by winning out four of the six singles matches. Libby Scott (Balmacewen) maintained her recent winning ways with an impressive win over Junji Inoguchi (Andersons Bay). After edging a competitive first set she ran away with match ultimately winning 6-4, 6-1.

In the top men's singles math-up Ryan Eggers (Andersons Bay) managed to find a way past Carlos Reid (Balmacewen) in an up-and-down match to win 7-5, 2-6, 6-3.

While the men's No3 and No4 singles matches were split, Jessie Stevenson and Ilana Goosens both claimed victories for Balmacewen in the female singles. Goosens fought past Angela Fitzgerald (Andersons Bay) in a tight encounter 7-6, 6-4. This left Balmacewen needing one doubles win to wrap up the tie and that was won by Henry Neas and Nic Cutfield as they beat George Alexander (Andersons Bay) and Inoguchi in a hard-fought 6-1, 5-7, 10-6 victory.

The Otago Boys' and St Clair tie was all even after the singles. Otago Boys' claimed the two women's singles matches as McKenzie Phillips defeated Pippa Sherrif and Annalise Wilson claimed an important victory over Jordyn Phillips, winning a long match 6-1, 3-6, 7-5.

St Clair won three out of the four men's singles matches highlighted by an impressive win by Ayoub Ahmad (St Clair) over Kade Wilson (Otago Boys') 6-2, 6-2 and Mitchell Sizemore (St Clair) winning the top men's singles over Mat McCutcheon (Otago Boys') 6-2, 6-3.

Zane Gray got one back for Otago Boys' as he overcame Hayden McNulty 6-4, 6-3. This left it all to play for in the three doubles matches and Otago Boys came out on top through wins to Henry Dickson and Zane Gray over Robin Verstegg and Hayden McNulty and Annalise Wilson and McKenzie Phillps capped off a good day for both, with a win over Pippa Sheriff and Jordyn Phillips 6-3, 6-3.
