Queenstown doubles player Ben McLachlan is enjoying his time at Wimbledon.

He has made his way through to the quarterfinals of the men's doubles at Wimbledon and remains in the hunt in the mixed doubles.

McLachlan and his partner, Jan Lennard Struff, beat German pair Philip Petzschner and Tim Putz 6-3, 6-4, 7-6 in the round of 16 in the men's doubles.

McLachlan and Struff served 15 aces against none from the German duo and won the match easily.

Wimbledon is the only Grand Slam where doubles matches are the best of five sets.

Struff, a German, and McLachlan now go on to play Joe Salisbury, of the United Kingdom, and Dane Fredrik Nielsen in the quarterfinals.

It was scheduled to be played overnight but may be delayed.

McLachlan, who declared for Japan last year, and Struff are ranked 14 in the doubles at the tournament.

McLachlan is also going well in the mixed doubles and has made it through to the round of 16.

In the round of 32 match, McLachlan and his partner, Eri Hozumi, of Japan, won by retirement over an American duo.

They now take on Jean-Julien Rojer and Demi Schuurs, of the Netherlands, in the next round at a time yet to be decided.

McLachlan has been on the rise in the doubles in recent months and now has a world ranking of 27.

That should rise next week after his performances at Wimbledon are taken into account.

Meanwhile, there is a southern link to the performance of the only New Zealand singles player at the tournament.

Lulu Sun is playing in the junior women's competition. She was born in Te Anau but left to go overseas when a toddler and has represented Switzerland.

However, she is turning out for New Zealand at Wimbledon and has won through to the second round.

Sun (17) is unsure of what country she will play for next and still has relatives living in Te Anau.
